The modern classic.

The LAMY 2000 has been writing design history since 1966. As a timeless classic, it is still one of the most sought after writing instruments today. Made of Makrolon, a fibreglass polycarbonate, the LAMY 2000 is available as a piston fountain pen with partially platinised 14 carat gold nib, and also available in ballpoint pen, rollerball pen, mechanical pencil and multicolour ballpoint pen.

The LAMY 2000 is the recipient of the iF Industrie Forum Design award, the oldest independent design seal in the world and a symbol of outstanding design achievement, it was also awarded the German Design Award and the red dot Design Award.

Design: Gerd A. Müller

The pen casing

The LAMY 2000 is renowned for its understated sleek and understated lines that remains as beautiful and elegant today as it was when the LAMY 2000 was first launched. With exact finishing and machining, the different parts of the LAMY 2000 pen casing blends seamlessly with the rest of the pen body giving the appearance of a smooth body with imperceptible joins. The sleek black Makrolon fiberglass pen casing develops a gracious patina over time, while its relatively light weight makes writing with the LAMY 2000 simply a sublime experience.

The nib

With a platinum coated, 14 carat gold nib that is unique only to the LAMY 2000 Fountain Pen... the special nib provides an exceptionally smooth writing experience that requires minimal pressure. Its unique shaped nib makes the LAMY 2000 write broader than most other LAMY nibs.

Brushed Steel Front Section

Another example of BauHaus design, the brushed steel front section provides more than merely a smart contrast to the Makrolon pen body of the Lamy 2000. Designed at just the right height for dipping fountain pens into an ink bottle, the brushed steel front section makes the LAMY 2000 easy to clean as well.

Piston-operated filling system

The LAMY 2000 Fountain Pen comes with a built-in piston operated filling system that is unscrewed at the end of the pen. (Don't screw too tightly!)

Ink Window

Working seamlessly with the piston filling system, the almost imperceptible ink window of the LAMY 2000 fountain pen provides a smart touch to this classic pen while providing users a practical gauge for the remaining ink volume inside the pen.

When the LAMY 2000 was launched in the autumn of 1966. it revolutionized writing in several respects: unlike writing instruments from other brands, it features no material surplus or design gadgets. Based on the Bauhaus principle “form follows function” it focuses on practical function and thus lays the foundation for the clear design language which still forms the basis for all Lamy writing instruments.

The LAMY 2000 also set new standards in terms of workmanship, as the material combination of matt-ground stainless steel and Makrolon (polycarbonate) is very challenging to work with and completely new in the mid-sixties. Creating the timeless design in this material was a real challenge: its production requires a combination of demanding mechanical and manual production and machining processes. All in all a complex process which results in a masterpiece.

Over 50 years later, the LAMY 2000 continues to be as desirable today as when it was first launched, making it one of the flagship pens that continues to define LAMY's identity to this day, and a continuing favorite of celebrities and enthusiasts alike.

The LAMY 2000 has been recognized as a work of modern art in itself and has been featured and prominently displayed in New York's Museum of Modern Art.

LAMY has since spawned multiple versions of this iconic pen including a high-quality all-metal series in stainless steel.
